Amazing Borneo

I'll start by saying it was quite tough going in places with some very steep terrain. But I love a challenge so did enjoy it. In fact it's one of the best cycling tours I've ever been on. The scenery was amazing and the rice threshing and rubber plantation was interesting. The hanging bridges were a first and I managed to cycle one of them! Dan our guide was great and obviously loved his sport, he made the tour for us.

The islands we visited were stunning, the boat transfers were extremely efficient, no waiting around for anything. I did this trip solo and it was great, the guide looked after belongings and I even had a table to myself for lunch (which was delicious)

Even though we didn't get to see the all the big 5, we saw the rhinoceros hornbill and plenty of monkeys, including the hibiscus monkey! The employees made such a difference, I got to talk with some and they were really kind and interesting!! The rooms are super nice and very comfy, no issues were encountered during my stay. 🤍

This is a two-hour guided tour on 5 of the tribes in Sabah. Our guide gave a simple and clear explanation on the history and lifestyle of these ancient tribes. This tour is not boring as it’s interactive moving from house to house, sampling of traditional food and a cultural live show. The tour ended with a simple yet nutritious buffet lunch. I enjoyed this tour despite the rain which thankfully stopped as the tour began.

Our long-awaited stay at The Borneo Rainforest Lodge (BRL) was everything we had hoped for. Despite the bumpy 2.5-hour journey from Lahad Datu, the incredible staff and experience more than compensated. We are especially grateful to Ms. Elizabeth for her guidance, to our wonderfully informative guide Deniel for his expertise and care, and to Mr. Jude Julani, whose extraordinary dedication—from fixing my husband’s shoe to returning my trekking stick to the airport—truly embodies BRL's exceptional hospitality. Our jungle-facing chalet was perfect, and we also want to thank the chef for accommodating special requests. Beyond the lodge, the awe-inspiring Danum Valley conservation area provided an unforgettable immersion into pristine rainforest. I am truly proud that Malaysia is home to such a magnificent and protected natural treasure, preserved thanks to the Sabah state government's foresight. We cannot recommend BRL highly enough for a truly remarkable experience.
