SabahTravel.com Engages UMS Students on Professional Branding in the Digital Tourism Era

SabahTravel.com recently visited Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) to conduct a knowledge-sharing session with Year 3 students on the evolving realities of the digital tourism industry. Presented by SabahTravel team members Ellyana and Celine, the session reflected SabahTravel’s commitment to supporting youth development and helping future tourism professionals better understand the industry beyond the classroom.

As Sabah’s tourism industry becomes increasingly digital, the session focused on how technology, branding, online visibility, and changing traveller behaviour are reshaping tourism careers and businesses today.

Giving Students Real-World Exposure to the Digital Tourism Industry

Held under the theme “Professional Branding in the Digital Tourism Era”, the session introduced students to how tourism professionals today operate in a far more technology-driven environment compared to the traditional travel industry model.

Students gained insight into how modern travellers now expect:

  • instant online bookings
  • live pricing and availability
  • seamless mobile-friendly experiences
  • faster customer support
  • transparent information before booking

The SabahTravel team also shared how skills such as SEO, digital branding, UX, and data analysis are becoming increasingly relevant in tourism-related careers today.

Sharing Practical Insights from SabahTravel’s Platform Ecosystem

During the presentation, students were introduced to how SabahTravel.com operates as an integrated multi-operator travel booking platform that connects travellers with tourism providers across Sabah.

The session highlighted how tourism businesses structure product information, optimise content for search intent, and build credibility through transparent pricing, reviews, and clear booking information.

Discussing AI, Data, and the Future of Tourism

The sharing session also touched on how AI and data-driven tools are influencing the future of tourism operations, customer engagement, and digital marketing.

While technology continues to evolve, the presenters emphasised the continued importance of human communication, storytelling, and customer trust in creating meaningful travel experiences.

Students were encouraged to build practical digital skills alongside traditional tourism knowledge as the industry continues adapting to new technologies and traveller expectations.

Supporting Tourism Education and Industry Collaboration in Sabah

The visit reflects SabahTravel.com’s broader commitment to supporting tourism education, knowledge sharing, and stronger industry-academia collaboration in Sabah.

By engaging directly with university students, SabahTravel hopes to provide practical industry exposure that complements academic learning while helping students better understand career expectations and opportunities within Malaysia’s tourism sector.

Through ongoing industry engagement and knowledge-sharing efforts, SabahTravel.com continues to support tourism innovation, youth development, and the long-term growth of Sabah’s tourism ecosystem.
