Overview

Tabin Wildlife Reserve is located in the eastern part of Sabah, Malaysia, The reserve encompasses approximately 122,539 hectare of rectangular area in the centre of the Dent Peninsula, north-east of Lahad Datu town. Created in the year 1984, Tabin has been declared as a Wildlife Reserve that accommodate large number of animals, some of which are highly endangered, inhabiting its forests. Guests might be able to get a chance to spot the two largest mammals of Sabah, namely Borneo Pygmy Elephant and Tembadau, as well as 9 species of primate, 3 species of cats and 42 families of over 220 bird species, all of which are protected by the wildlife reserve.

One of the highlights of Tabin is its active and mineral-rich mud volcanoes which often attract wildlife, making it an ideal platform for wildlife observation and bird-watching. Popular recreational activities that is worth to write in your things-to-do list are jungle-trekking, night safari, night walk, wildlife-spotting, bird-watching and rainforest education.

Tabin Wildlife Reserve, which is mainly covered with lowland dipterocarp forest, has become attractions that provides deeper understanding of the rich bio-diversity of nature in Sabah and a place for guests to gain experiential learning experience about the need for wildlife conservation. The Wildlife Department of Sabah is the custodian of the animals in the reserve while the Forestry Department of Sabah is responsible for the tress in Tabin.

About Tabin Wildlife Resort

Tabin Wildlife Resort, located ideally within Malaysia's largest wildlife reserve, is bestowed with some of nature's finest creations. Designed with charming timber, it offers private lodges that provide maximum comfort for guests to relax after a day of comprehensive nature-based activities.

River Lodges offers 10 authentic twin-bedded or double-bedded timber bungalow rooms, which can accommodate up to 3 people. Each bungalow features an en-suite bathroom with heated shower, private balcony, and ceiling fan. Each lodge is linked by an interconnecting timber boardwalk to the Sunbird Café.

Important Notes

  • This tour package is based on join-in basis of shared guide and transportation. Private Guide or Tour is available upon request at a reasonable fee. Please inform us when making the bookings.
  • We do not guarantee wildlife sightings.
  • Under the regulation from Malaysia's Ministry of Tourism and Culture, foreign tourists are required to pay a Malaysian Tourism Tax (TTX) at a flat rate of MYR10 per room per night regardless of the accommodation's star rating and to be paid upon check-in. Malaysians or permanent residents are exempted from the TTX and is required to present a valid identification upon check-in
  • Departure time is approximate and may vary due to traffic condition and hotel distance. Kindly check with the operator as stated on the voucher should you need further assistance.
  • We reserve the right to alter routes, timetables, itineraries and accommodation should conditions beyond our control render it necessary.
  • Scheduled return transfer is as follows:
  • From Lahad Datu to Tabin: 8:00AM / 12:00PM
  • From Tabin to Lahad Datu: 1:30PM
