Overview
Challenge yourself with a 4-day, 3-night Mount Trus Madi climb and explore one of Sabah’s most demanding mountain environments. Rising to 2,642 metres, Mount Trus Madi is the second-highest mountain in Malaysia, located within a protected forest reserve that spans the districts of Tambunan, Ranau, and Keningau.
This trek offers two route options, either via the Kaingaran Trail or the Sinua Trail, each beginning from different access points and passing through varied terrain. The journey starts from rural village areas before progressing into dense rainforest, with steady elevation gain over several days. The trail conditions range from forest floor paths to steep and narrow sections that require focus and endurance.
Over the course of the climb, spend your nights at basic camps surrounded by nature, away from urban facilities. On summit day, begin your ascent in the early hours and reach Nuluhon Trus Madi as daylight breaks. The view from the top, often above a blanket of clouds, marks a rewarding moment before descending and returning to Kota Kinabalu.
