The annual Tamu Besar of Kota Belud, will be held on the last weekend of October. This Tamu Besar, the largest melting pot market in Sabah is a mere 2-hour car ride from Kota Kinabalu city, perfect as a day trip or quick weekend getaway. It is a unique event that attracts both locals and internationals. The main highlights include Bajau Horse performances, Ratu Sarimpak beauty pageant, Tanjak Pahlawan traditional hero performance, traditional cooking contest as well as White-rumped Shama whistle competition. Perfect for a family outing with many activities for all ages.

Pronounced as ‘tah-moo’, this marketplace is a place to sell, buy or exchange goods and food. In an open-air setting, vendors sell street foods, traditional crafts such as rattan mats, baskets from screw pine leaves, traditional machetes alongside with fishermen's and farmers' produces.
