Venture into the Trusan Sugut Forest Reserve, a revitalised lowland rainforest in northeast Sabah that has been reclassified as a Class I Protection Forest with FSC certification. Once a logging reserve, this area is now strictly protected and managed for conservation, making it one of the most significant restored rainforests in Borneo.
Over four days, explore the forest on dawn, dusk, and night 4x4 safaris, with opportunities to see orangutans, proboscis monkeys, banteng, saltwater crocodiles, and an incredible variety of birdlife, including 7 of Borneo’s 8 hornbill species. Between safaris, relax at Frederick Kugan Base Camp and take in sweeping rainforest views from Fidelis Tip Viewpoint, where Mount Kinabalu sometimes graces the horizon.
What makes this safari truly unique is its direct conservation impact. Guests can join an optional tree planting activity supported by WWF-Malaysia and the Sabah Forestry Department, contributing to the long-term restoration of the forest. This journey blends wildlife discovery with meaningful conservation, offering travellers a chance to experience Sabah’s rainforest while supporting its continued recovery.
